I turn 28 on Saturday, July 1. No big deal. It’s just another birthday.
But actually, it’s kind of a big deal because so much happened when I was 27.
I moved into my new house.
I started building a house when I was 25 and was finally able to move in at the end of July 2022. My house is my oasis, with hundreds of books taking over my living room, a balcony off my bedroom to sip my coffee on in the morning, a giant backyard that my dog frankly doesn’t appreciate, and a neighbor right behind me who has become my family.
Now, love my house. But I will say, I was not prepared to be a homeowner. It’s not the financial piece of it, but have you ever tried to keep an entire house clean? The dog hair alone is enough to drive me mad. And that’s just the inside. I have to do yard work and try to keep my flowerbeds from becoming weedbeds. For the record, I have not yet been successful at that.
I fostered two sweet pups.
Having my own house means I can open my doors (and backyard) to dogs in need. For seven months, a sweet pittie named Jax lived with me while his family focused on finding him a suitable house back in New York. He drooled all over my life, but also blessed me with snuggles and kisses at all times.
At the same time, I fell in love with a three-month-old puppy who looked like she could be my Harvey’s baby sister. On her first day with me, we stopped by a farmer’s market and she worked the crowd, bringing in three applications for adoption!
Did it break my heart? Absolutely. I sobbed for a week as I helped the rescue choose her forever home, and then dropped her off with her new dad just eight days after I began fostering her. But I get updates of her new life and she and her dad will be moving to Colorado soon to adventure through the mountains.
I started speaking at conferences.
This is one I never thought would happen. I am not one for public speaking and have had major anxiety attacks from just presenting in front of coworkers.
But, I did my first virtual podcast talk at PodPros and then took the physical stage at FinCon in Orlando.
Since then, I’ve had speaking opportunities at PodFest, PodFest Global, and Outlier.
I launched a company!
Again, shocking to me. At 27, I launched Favorite Daughter Media in hopes of coaching entrepreneurs to be fantastic podcast guests.
The opportunities that have come from this are only beginning to show and the journey so far has been amazing.
